How to choose the right Korean serum or treatment
Choosing the right serum for your skin
A good serum should target a specific skin concern without making your routine too complicated. Korean serums and treatments are popular because they often combine effective ingredients with lightweight textures that are easy to layer.
In this category, you can find hydrating serums, brightening treatments, calming ampoules, peptide serums, vitamin C formulas, niacinamide serums, retinol, retinal and targeted treatments for different skin types and concerns.
- Dark spots or uneven tone: Look for ingredients such as niacinamide, tranexamic acid, vitamin C, rice, propolis or tone-brightening ampoules.
- Fine lines or loss of firmness: Peptides, collagen-supporting formulas, retinal, retinol and lifting serums can help the skin look smoother and firmer with consistent use.
- Dehydrated skin: Hyaluronic acid, panthenol, beta-glucan and lightweight hydrating ampoules can help the skin feel more comfortable and plump.
- Redness or sensitive skin: Choose calming serums with Centella, heartleaf, panthenol, azelaic acid or barrier-supporting ingredients.
- Visible pores or oily skin: Niacinamide, lightweight ampoules and sebum-balancing serums can help the skin look more refined and balanced.
- Dull or tired-looking skin: Vitamin C, niacinamide, propolis, rice and peptide serums can help the skin look fresher and more radiant.
How to use Korean serums and treatments
Serums are usually applied after toner or essence and before moisturiser. The best routine is not the one with the most products, but the one that your skin can tolerate consistently.
- Apply after toner or essence: Use a small amount of serum on clean skin and gently pat until absorbed.
- Introduce one active at a time: If you are using vitamin C, retinol, retinal, exfoliating acids or strong brightening products, add them slowly to avoid irritation.
- Use hydrating and calming serums daily: Gentle formulas with Centella, hyaluronic acid, panthenol or heartleaf can often be used morning and night, depending on the product.
- Use retinol or retinal at night only: Start 2–3 times per week and increase slowly if your skin tolerates it.
- Use sunscreen every morning: This is especially important when using vitamin C, retinol, retinal, exfoliating acids or products for dark spots.
Which serum ingredient should you choose?
Different ingredients work better for different skin goals. Choosing the right one helps you avoid buying too many products that do the same thing.
- Niacinamide: A versatile ingredient for pores, uneven tone, oiliness and a stronger-looking skin barrier.
- Tranexamic acid: Often used in formulas for dark spots, discoloration and uneven-looking skin tone.
- Vitamin C: Helps the skin look brighter and more radiant, especially when used with sunscreen.
- Hyaluronic acid: A hydrating ingredient that helps the skin feel softer, smoother and more comfortable.
- Peptides: Good for routines focused on firmness, elasticity and the look of fine lines.
- Centella: A calming ingredient often used for sensitive, stressed or redness-prone skin.
- Retinol and retinal: Best for night routines focused on fine lines, texture, firmness and anti-aging care. Start slowly and use SPF every morning.
How to layer serums safely
If you use more than one serum, keep the routine simple. A good rule is to use lightweight hydrating or calming products first, then targeted treatments. Avoid combining too many strong actives in the same routine.
For example, you can use a hydrating or calming serum with a brightening serum if your skin tolerates it. But if you are using retinol, retinal or exfoliating acids, it is better to keep the rest of the routine gentle and barrier-friendly.

Frequently asked questions
Which Korean serum should I choose?
Choose based on your main concern. For dark spots, look for niacinamide, tranexamic acid or vitamin C. For hydration, choose hyaluronic acid or panthenol. For redness, choose Centella, heartleaf or calming formulas. For fine lines, look for peptides, retinol or retinal.
Can I use more than one serum?
Yes, but it is better to keep the routine simple. Start with one serum first, then add another only if your skin feels comfortable.
Can I use vitamin C with niacinamide?
Many people can use vitamin C and niacinamide in the same routine, but sensitive skin may prefer to use them at different times of the day or on alternate days.
When should I use retinol or retinal?
Retinol and retinal should be used at night only. Start 2–3 times per week, follow with moisturiser and use sunscreen every morning.
Can I use serums if I have sensitive skin?
Yes, but choose gentle calming or hydrating formulas first. Avoid starting with too many strong active ingredients at the same time.
Are your Korean serums and treatments genuine?
